Case Study: Thayer Loss-In-Weight Feeders

A major specialty steel producer uses eleven Thayer Loss In Weight Cable Scales to accurately meter various ingredients as well as finished product. Through extensive testing Thayer scale determined that a combination of Loss In Weight Screw Feeders and Loss In Weight vibratory feeders should be used to perform a blend of ingredients to make a specialized steel product.

These feeders needed specific designs to meet the customer requirement for ruggedness and must maintain accuracy 24 hours a day.

Thayer built three special Large Cable Suspension Scales that would use 24” wide (1,700 lb) electromagnetic vibratory feeders to control and spread the material across the hearth.
