SI Insertion Weigh Belt

Thayer Scale’s Weigh Belt Feeder Sanitary “SI” Insertion Weigh Belt Feeder is a unique feeder that has been designed to easily fit into an existing production process.

Offering a broad suite of sanitary equipment with expanding hygienic solutions, Thayer Scale’s in-process bulk material rate measurement, rate control and dosing solutions help the food space meet the challenges of this new era of smarter food safety initiatives.
To deliver an acceptable level of measurement performance, conventional weigh belt technology requires lightweight, latterly flexible belting with minimal tension to allow proper moment transfer of the material being conveyed through the belt to the weigh bridge beneath the belt.

The “SI” comes in either scale over or scale under design. A short support framework and a V-Guided conveyor (12, 18, 24 and 36 wide) makes this the only practical weighing module for insertion into a transition space between existing conveyors or equipment.

Features

Like the standard series “SI” insertion weigh belt feeder, the new sanitary version utilizes Thayer Scale’s patented precision flexure plate suspension scale with FMSS technology. The scale provides for complete mass counterbalancing of the dead load of the conveyor assembly, permitting the load sensor to react only to the net material load. This unique system is not affected by dirt, shocks, or vibration and can withstand overloads in excess of 1,000 pounds without causing damage or affecting calibration. The highly advanced and extremely robust sensing technology is based on either an LVDT or strain gauge load cell.

The Series “SI” ships with Thayer Scale’s standard instrumentation package, including the new WeighPoint™ integrator, enabling the system to operate as either a process stream integrator or as a process controller. Thayer Scale’s feature-packed next-generation WeighPoint™ touchscreen-enabled gravimetric feeder instrumentation system harnesses four decades of technical innovation and seamlessly integrates with existing facility communication platforms for enhanced process connectivity, paving the way for IIoT and connected device features.

The Model SI consists of a short conveyor directly coupled to a mass counterbalanced weight sensing system. This configuration permits the use of belts not suitable for conventional weigh belt service, such as wire mesh, modular, cleated, profiled, and other high-tensioned belts, without compromising measurement accuracy.

The “SI” is a unique feeder designed to easily fit into an existing production process to provide real-time continuous flow rate measurement or flow rate control in tight process areas. And now, with the sanitary stainless-steel construction and a wide range of new belt options, it can be used in many food processes that were previously not suitable for standard weigh belt feeders. The new belting options include easy-to-clean wire mesh belting for high flow-through and high-heat applications, positive drive belts, high-temperature belts, and profiled belts. The conveyor portion of the SI can be positioned horizontally, inclined or declined up to 20-degrees. The new sanitary weigh belt feeder has an optional vibrator pre-feeder to accommodate high downforce material drops with no loss of accuracy. Stainless construction with multiple surface finish and weld finish options, as well as component and transmission ingress protection rating options from IP55 to IP69K to meet any budget, Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), Sanitary Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), applicable legal or regulatory cleaning validation, cleaning verification, cleaning monitoring, hygienic zoning, microbiological assessment, pathogen testing programs and food safety plans.

The SI meters a broad range of ingredients with fragile asymmetrical particle shapes making it ideally suited for:

  • Crop yield measurement
  • Salad mix blending
  • Accurate feed rate control of pre-baked diced and sliced bread (croutons), stuffing mix and crisps into a seasoning coating drum to ensure topical seasonings are applied both in-phase and in the correct proportion
  • Accurate measurement of food forming machine output to facilitate immediate adjustment of upstream loading systems, minimizing off-spec product.

The SI Insertion Weigher uses Thayer Scales patented precision flexure plate suspension scale with FMSS technology. The Series SI can be supplied with THAYER instrumentation and controls to function as either a process stream weigher only, or as a flow stream controller/weigher (providing the additional controller output to regulate the upstream delivery system. Thayer’s patented SLC (scale location compensation) features can also be supplied to move the point of measurement further downstream adjacent to associated or slaved equipment.
