Engineered for controlled powder and granule feeding across a range of materials and feed rates.
Thayer Scale’s loss-in-weight screw feeders feature a patented system for reliable metering, virtually eliminating common problems associated with feeding powders.
The optional (patented) “compound flight” feed screw can be used with most materials to downwardly extend the operating range of the feeder by a factor of 10 (typically). The patented “U-trough” feed chamber with independently driven agitator assures precise, reliable material delivery to the feed screw. It eliminates material build-up, controls material aeration and delivers a steady constant flow of material.

COMPACT
Precision dosing performance, designed to fit where others can’t.
GENERAL PURPOSE
The broadest material volume range—enabled by Thayer Scale’s proven cable suspension architecture.
MSV PELLET FEEDER
An economical compact feeder for pellets, granules and other free-flowing materials.
Core Technologies
🌀 “U-Trough” Hopper & Agitator
The first practical AND economical means for metering difficult powders. An independently driven agitator maintains optimum material conditioning while screw speed can vary to control flow rate. The U-shaped trough and agitator combination effectively de-aerates and contains powders.
🔩 Compound Flight Feed Screw
Optional patented “compound flight” feed screw can be used with most materials to downwardly extend the operating range of the feeder by a factor of 10 (typically).
⚖️ Fully Mass-Counterbalanced Platform or Cable Scale
Maximizes load cell utilization by measuring only the live load and isolating the material weight signal from vibration, shock, and external forces.
🧩 Load Cell Options for Any Application
Strain Gauge Load Cell: Rugged and accurate, rated 25–500 lbs. with 300% overload protection. LVDT Load Cell: High-resolution, tension-style design ideal for light loading and fine-feed applications and offering unparalleled overload protection at 1000% of rated output.
🧰 Built-In Automatic Test Weight Lifter (ATWL)
Built-in calibration system applies a known test load at the press of a button. Enables quick, verifiable calibration checks without halting production or manual intervention.
Key Benefits
of Thayer Scale’s Screw Feeders
🌀 Precise, Reliable Feeding
Screw feeders enable precise and reliable feeding of cohesive, easily aerated and difficult to control powders.
🎯 Extended Operating Range
Feeds from a few grams per minutes up to 10s of 1000s of pounds/hour.
🧼 Easy To Clean
Breaks down completely in under one minute for quick, thorough sanitation. Built from durable stainless steel for long-term, trouble-free performance.
🧱 Built to Survive
Unlike lightweight designs made for short-term convenience or scale sensitivity, our feeders are engineered for long-term durability, without compromising accuracy.
🔄 Integrated Material Agitation Options
Prevents flow issues like bridging, funnel flow, adhesion, and cohesion for consistent material feeding.
📐 Flexible Mounting Options
Supports floor-mounted, rotating, stationary, wheeled, forklift-based, or suspended installations.

How Thayer Scale’s ‘U-Trough’ Hopper & Agitator Screw Feeder Technology Works
Thayer Scale’s Powder Feeders control both flooding and clogging problems associated with difficult-to-handle powders. They are deep tear-drop “U” trough screw feeders, featuring a dual wound horizontal agitator that moves material away from both front and back walls of the conditioning chamber above. The deepness of the trough assures that the screw is completely submerged in “quiet” material, free of the usual surface disturbances arising from the turning agitator above. This, along with an inherently larger trough “wrap-around” angle, provides for complete and efficient filling of each flight. The tear- drop shape of the trough is tapered in the direction of flow so as to relieve dynamic compaction forces as each flight advances toward the feed-tube entrance. This helps to maintain a more uniform material density throughout. Another advantage of the deep-trough design is that it is less susceptible to transient overfeeding that accompanies hopper refilling.
