Product Manager – Plastics & Chemicals Segment


Thayer Scale, a global leader in industrial weighing technology, needs an experienced Product Manager for our Plastics & Chemicals market segment. This person will be responsible for the development and execution of our overall product and marketing strategy for this critical end-market. The on-site position is located at our corporate headquarters in Pembroke, Massachusetts.

A successful candidate will have 7+ years of experience in the bulk-solids material handling field, and deep knowledge of the Plastics and Chemicals market segments, particularly ethylene, propylene, and butylene raw stock processes, as well as custom polymer / resin compounding processes. S/he will have significant direct field experience either as a direct sales resource or a product marketing expert.

Job responsibilities

  • Development and execution of our overall marketing strategy for the Plastics & Chemicals market segments. Including:
    • Messaging – development and communication of segment-specific messaging across all media
    • Print Strategy – determination of offline media and communication strategy to maximize lead generation and brand awareness in critical industry publications
    • Digital Strategy – formulation of social media, web content, outbound marketing and other digital marketing tools
  • Product Pipeline Definition and Management
    • Working with existing and target new accounts to develop product requirements documents specifying required features and benefits
    • Visiting key accounts to perform Voice-of-the-Customer (VOC) assessments
    • Assessment of competitive products and services and identification of product gaps relative to competitive offerings
    • Assessment and evaluation of key segment-specific regulations and standards
    • Project management and oversight of development activity working closely with other senior stakeholders including Engineering, R&D and senior sales management
  • Sales Support – delivery of segment-specific sales material in support of direct field-sales organization
    • Case studies, whitepapers, and other content establishing Thayer Scale as leader in segment.
    • PowerPoint presentations, Brochures, Webinars, and other content
    • Pricing tools and quoting templates
    • Regular, frequent travel with field sales organization in support of key account sales process
    • Trade-show management including attendance at 4-6 trade shows per year specific to the Plastics and Chemical markets
  • Customer Satisfaction
    • Relevant metrics to ensure high customer satisfaction with our equipment and services
    • Participation in cross-functional Account Development Team processes

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in a sales or marketing role in an instrumentation or industrial controls business, preferably in the Bulk Solids Material Handling industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific field
  • 5+ years of experience in the Plastics or Chemicals industry
  • Knowledge of / or experience in Industrial Weighing, Feeding and Control preferable
  • Experience with Lean Management or 6-sigma a plus
  • Travel of 25% is typical
