SERIES 5200 for Batching, Continuous Weighing and Belt Scale Integrator Applications
Operator Interface
Mounted with optional oil-tight switches and indicators
The THAYER® Series 5200 Instrument provides maximum versatility in system integration and ease of customer use. Proprietary software, stored on a removable FLASH memory card, controls or monitors continuous Weighing and Feeding equipment. Separate processing unit, scale interface and display allow flexibility in plant layout and placement of electronics into suitable environments. Additional display(s) means viewing information is not limited to displays mounted on the feeder or the instrument box. Simple English instructions guide the user through menu programming, I/O selection and Calibration routines. Powerful on-line Diagnostic displays and Historical data make solving problems a snap.
Software Applications:
- Weigh Belt Feeders
- Loss-in-Weight Feeders
- Liquid Mass Flow Meters
- Conveyor Belt Scales
Software features:
- Ratio Control
- Temperature Compensation
- Batch Out Control (Loss-in-Weight only)
- Non-Linear gain Compensation for Vibratory Feeders
- Sample and Hold Control for infeed transport delay time
- Scale Location Compensation (SLC)
- Input SLC for synchronizing multiple feeders at startup
- Output SLC to delay control/monitoring to the discharge point of the conveyor
- TakeAway SLC to allow monitoring at a point on a down-stream conveyor
CENTRAL PROCESSOR UNIT (CPU) The CPU is the main processor module that runs the application software, controls all communications and performs the required I/O. The CPU gathers information directly from the SU, and provides an additional RS-485 communications link for the Operator Interface(s).
The application software is processed by the CPU on an embedded PC with the appropriate boards for I/O which include:
- I-5200 board containing all required I/O for Belt Integrator or Batching applications
- C-5200 board containing additional I/O for controller applications
- Optional communication boards
Features of the CPU:
- Provides power to the Scale Unit and Operator Interface
- Communicates with the SU via a single RS-485, 2-wire point-to point interface
- Communicates with up to three OI(s) via a single RS-485, 2 wire multi-drop interface
- Universal power supply (100 to 240 VAC @ 50 to 60Hz)
- Built-in Parallel port for printer
- Various communications modules and software are available:
- Allen Bradley
- Modbus RTU
- Modbus Plus
- Modbus/TCP
- Ethernet/IP
- Devicenet
- Profibus
SCALE UNIT (SU) The second component is the interface to the feeder - the Scale Unit (SU). The SU gathers load, speed and temperature information from the scale. It is factory wired and is typically mounted on the scale in a NEMA 4 enclosure. The only wiring required by the customer for installation is power and communications to the CPU. The SU communicates with and gets its power from the CPU or an optional 24-48 VDC local Power Supply. Communication media is 2-wire RS-485 point-to-point.
Features of the SU:
- Interfaces to LVDT's or Strain Gage load cells
- Powerful 24 bit A/D converter for load measurement
- Speed sensors include accelerometer, ring gear or quadrature pulser
- Gathers temperature information from the scale
- Provides local I/O to the feeder which include:
- Control and monitoring the position of the of the optional Automated Test Weight Lifter (ATWL).
- Belt tracking limit switches.
OPERATOR INTERFACE (OI) The third component is the Operator Interface (OI) containing a display and custom keypad for operator’s use. An RS-485 Serial multi-drop connection allows data transfer with the CPU.
Features of the OI:
- 4 X 20 vacuum florescent display
- Sealed membrane keys with audible feedback
- Single MENU key for:
- Normal menu function
- Kernel menu functions
- Exception menu functions
- Diagnostic menu to view information about:
- Software Revisions
- Raw Data
- Alarm & Calibration Histories
