Thayer’s new Model SI Ultra-Sanitary Insertion Weigh Belt is Built to Exceed USDA Standards for Cheese, Dairy, Meat, Poultry, Confectionary, Baked Goods, Prepared Foods and More

The new Model SI Ultra-Sanitary Insertion Weigh Belt is designed to provide accurate, reliable weighing performance and quick, easy cleaning for a variety of sanitary applications. The Model SI is built to exceed USDA standards for cheese, dairy, meat, poultry, confectionary, baked goods, prepared foods and more. USDA/FDA drum motor is hermetically sealed in a food-grade oil bath and ideally suited for applications requiring daily high-pressure wash down. White USDA approved pulley lagging is used for positive belt traction.

Equipment used for food handling, and particularly weigh belts, must be constructed to ensure effective and efficient cleaning over its life span. The equipment design must also eliminate or minimize areas where material can build up such as the support frame, belt and side skirts. With this in mind, the Ultra-Sanitary Model SI features a belt that is troughed to keep product away from the edge of the belt. This eliminates the need for side skirts, which is often a source of material build up with sticky products like shredded cheese.

The 30” long conveyor is suspended from the scale on an open cantilevered “C-frame” pipe support, which greatly simplifies belt removal and replacement for wash down applications. With belt widths of 18,” 24,” and 36” and positively tracked belts (using a C-Guided tracking system,) the belting of the SI is more robust than that used for “under-the-belt” load sensing weigh belt feeders and the operating life of the belt is substantially longer than with conventional designs. Additionally, the conveyor portion can be oriented on the C-Frame to convey according to the installation conditions, including horizontally, upwards (20 degrees) or downward (20 degrees.)

Unlike conventional weigh belts that feature a weigh bridge installed in the conveyor, the entire conveyor assembly of the specialized Thayer Insertion Weigh Belt is coupled to a patented mass counter-balanced Force Measurement Suspension System (FMSS) that allows load cell selection based on net, rather than gross weighing requirements. This unique measurement system is not affected by belt tension and enables heavy and/or specialized belts, that don’t provide enough flexibility for use in conventional weigh belts, to be used in the SI Insertion Weigh Belt with uncompromised accuracy. The Series “SI” also features the Thayer Flexure-Plate Suspension system, which utilizes a series of steel flexure plates to transmit gravimetric loads vertically from the load receiving element through levers to the specifically selected Load Sensor.
